**I'm a logibro whose main weapon is a laser rifle so keep that in mind.**
I tried out the nova knives on a scout and had a lot of fun running around trying (and failing) to stab people. From the few matches I played using the knives I thought back to other games such as Killzone 3 and Battlefield 3 where if done right, a melee would be an insta-kill and I thought "That's just what these need". And NO I am NOT proposing that by simply being in a certain spot that you can assassinate an enemy, that would lead to people sprinting past you, immediately doing a 180 and insta-killing you (Like you can in Battlefield 3) and I'm also not proposing that it always be insta-kill like in Killzone 3. What I AM proposing is that if behind someone stationary or moving away from you at less than (this number is arbritrary, I'll leave this up to the devs) 50% of your max movement speed and HAVE NOT BEEN IN THEIR LINE OF SITE FOR X AMOUNT OF TIME (this is to prevent the sprinting 180-degree turn kill from Battlefield 3) that you have a prompt appear to assassinate the player (or automatically do it upon attack, the prompt might overcomplicate it), insta-killing them and preventing them from being able to be revived (like the brutal melee in Killzone 3). This gives them a buff that can actually help them without making them overpowered. **This is all going off of my logibro brain saying the Nova Knives are meant for sneaking in to an area and killing their people stealthily**, (like taking out a single Proto Logi thats keaping an entire squad of Proto heavies alive and resupplied in fortifications around an objective so your team can end the siege) By preventing them from being able to be revived it stoppes enemies from finding out that someone is killing them by no putting up that "revive me" thingy on the map and over their corpse. so they'll have to notice that their teamates are gone from the minimap or read the kill-feed. |

So walking up behind a heavy (or anyone else) with knive and stabbing them (maybe repeatedly?) in the throat won't kill them?
As a logi I disagree with you, I wouldn't care if I was in full Prototype, if a scout managed to sneak up on me and assassinate me I wouldn't get angry, I would deserve it. REMEMBER=
Ecshon Autorez wrote:HAVE NOT BEEN IN THEIR LINE OF SITE FOR X AMOUNT OF TIME So you can stop the insta-kill from happening simply by LOOKING AT THEM. If they manage too sneak up on a squad and kill them without anyone either seeing them and doing a call-out or seeing them on the minimap by scanner then you deserve to be assassinated.

if its gonna be able to instakill like that, teir must match teir
if STD can kill PRO in one hit.... that is overpowered.
keep it lined up so if someone wants to go Knife murdering, it needs to be same teir or lower or instakill, would make the most sense... and still keep it fair
I didn't think of that, good point. If this is how its implemented then no-one will upgrade past STD Perhaps something like what Section 8: Prejudice did? (They must be within a certain percentage of max health (I think it might have been a third or a quarter, I don't know because no-one ever survived my first swing, I used the god-knife )) BUT DIFFERENT!
Instead of being "you are this close to dying, people can now insta-kill you". How about within a certain percentage of how much damage your knives do? Or giving them two different attack amounts 1: the normal attack amount, 2: the, much higher, assassination amount (This is the maximum amount of health an enemy may have for you to still be able to assassinate them.
This stops both problems because now the only way a STD can assassinate a higher teir heavy is with damage mods, the heavy being low health, or just not noticing.
I thought of something else while writing this, but forgot it as I was writing :-P. If I remember I'll come back and post it. |

Garrett Blacknova wrote:What Nova Knives need for a buff is deifnitely NOT an instakill function. They need the ability to sprint while charging without an exploit (being implemented), improved charge time, and buffs from melee skills as well as sidearm skills to be applied to their damage and any other relevant stats. It might be nice to have a "backstab" damage bonus instead of the headshot bonus on other weapons, so hitting enemy suits from behind deals more damage, but hitting them in the face only hurts the usual amount. I remembered!
Higher teir knives have reduced charge time and Nova Knife Operation reduces the charge time by 5% per level. I just checked and with Nova Knife Operation at lvl 5 and using the Prototype Nova Knives your charge time will be .375 seconds. -_- Yes, because that needs reduced charge time.
I haven't seen anything that says Nova Knives aren't affected by skills, hang on I'll check *switches monitor from VGA to HDMI* ..... *switches back* I can comfirm that Nova Knives are affected by AT LEAST Sidearm Weapon Upgrade. |

Apparently you have nothing to worry about.
I just went 9/7 using only Nova Knives on a scout and most of those kills where heavies. They were to busy shooting their miniguns to notice me stab them twice, cus it only takes two fully charged stabs with STD Nova Knives to kill a heavy. So it DOES do that much anyway, therefore there is no reason for it not to be able to do insta-kill. Besides, if it did then they could add a cool cinematic like with BF3 or KZ3. |

All forms of melee are jokingly OP right now in chromosome, assuming the person is skilled enough to get in close enough to use them reliably.
Train up max skills and then tell me you're not instakilling someone you hit in the face. :P
Sneak attacks, special animations, and lunges are all very poor gameplay mechanics, that do nothing but add visual flair to the game ad the expense of the gameplay itself.
So what your telling me is that you've never been about to stab a sniper in the back only for the sniper to see your signature on radar and jump out of the way at last possible instant?
Or perhaps the people on their team have mics and you were spotted but they couldn't get a shot because their friendly (whom you are charging up to stab) is in the way so they shout "BEHIND YOU!!" into their mic making the sniper jump out of the way, enabling the other enemy to shoot at you while the sniper starts bunny hopping away from your knives while mowing you down with an SMG because you cant move forward as fast as he can move backwards and still charge your knives? |
